GEICO Insurance has long had a history of being involved in the communities where it has physical offices, and Georgia is no exception. Results of the 2008 United Way campaign were recently tallied, making the insurance company and its employees the largest donor to the United Way of Central Georgia, with total pledges of $761,012.
The announcement came on Thursday, January 22nd, from GEICOs offices in east Bibb County, with a United Way representative in attendance.
In a press release, Scott Sapp, 2008 United Way Campaign Chair, thanked GEICO profusely, saying, “Geico had our largest dollar increase by far, and we really needed those extra dollars this year more than ever. The money they raised will go a long way in helping strengthen our local communities in these trying times.”
The total pledges from GEICO employees came to $627,012, which was 9 percent higher than last year’s donations. As well, the company’s corporate gift was also larger increasing from $120,000 in 2007 to $134,000 in 2008, representing an increase of 12%.
Shawn Burklin, southeastern regional vice president of GEICO, also added his words to the press release, stating, “I am so proud of our generous and community-minded associates who went the extra mile to make this possible.”
